Nephrology
Division of Nephrology
Mandate
The goals for the Division of Nephrology include delivering optimal, full service, state-of-the-art clinical care, complemented by relevant clinical and basic research into childhood kidney disease. The Division provides tertiary level care in the diagnosis and management of children with acute and chronic renal problems, including congenital and developmental kidney abnormalities, fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, urinary tract infections, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome and renal tubular dysfunction. With the shifting advances in research and diagnostics, a growing emphasis has been placed on the diagnosis, optimal care, and research into developmental abnormalities of the fetal kidney and its impact on the growing child.
While maintaining its emphasis on the delivery of tertiary and quaternary care to children with kidney disorders from the province, the Division now is active not only in the delivery of clinical care and teaching, but is also engaged in internally and externally funded research in basic, clinical, and educational sciences.
